Great spelling and vocabulary practice, but it may be difficult for those without a strong grasp of English due to the lack of context. Print puzzle: The printer icon gives you the option of printing out the daily Codeword so that you can work on it with pencil and paper.

Many players find this game to be a relaxing alternative to the frustrations of obscure crossword clues. And that no puzzle should be "ambiguous" (as, for example, if the only instances of the letters K and L were in a position where the word could be KALE or LAKE). In Arkadium's Codeword, every letter in the alphabet makes at least one appearance in the grid and is represented by the same number wherever it appears. Instead, each letter A-Z is represented by a random number 1-26, with the same number representing the same letter throughout the puzzle. I occasionally can use this for codewords as well, particularly if there are multiple starting letters in a single long word, which narrows down its output considerably. If you're after a bigger challenge, try our Crossword apps - casual, cryptic and US style versions are available. Our books are carefully classified and organized by level, making it easy for you to progress and see measurable results. In my current example puzzle, this annoyingly still doesn't make anything super-obvious, but we now have -A-L-R as a word.

Codebreakers are fiendishly addictive puzzles in which every letter in a typical crossword grid has been replaced by a number between 1 and 26. With the puzzle I'm using as an example (I'm deliberately not linking to it because (1) I don't know whether it will be available online for ever and (2) the approach is the important thing rather than these details), if I enter the A and E, the next interesting things I find are D----EED, which seems like it should be very informative but nothing springs instantly to mind, and D-A-.The puzzles are very absorbing and irresistibly pleasant almost to a point of becoming an addiction. We’ve got you going with a couple of combinations, so all you need to do is start linking the other letters and corresponding numbers and your words will start flowing.

Here, the letter in between is probably E (impossible because we already have E), R (possible), or I or U. Harder puzzles have less common words, names, abbreviations, initials, multi-words, plurals, US and UK spellings, and often less starter letters. Very addictive but also the best and easiest way to keep the brain working at reasonable level and speed. Excluding those uncommon letters allows us to use a greater range of words, and thus less word repeats throughout the pack. The next two letters, t and a, could be either way around, considering the small size of the sample, but you should be able to do it by looking at the board.Between L and R there needs to be a vowel; we already have E and it seems like O is the only possibility.
