The main complaints seem to be an unnecessarily complicated fuel system requiring a distinct methodology for use. The AKG C414 is the best-known condenser microphone from the iconic company, but the pathway of its development is a little bit complicated. Over its production run the number of 414s and 414As were evenly split, with 516 and 554 built, respectively. While it's always difficult to put the sound of a mic into words, I'd say the C3000 is slightly on the 'pushy' side of neutral with an effective, forward presence and a slight sizzle which helps to create a lively, exciting vocal sound that projects well in a busy mix. It also has a slightly 'throaty' quality which helps create an intimate, 'in your face' effect without having to resort to sheer level to achieve the same result. The pressurization and turbocharged nature of the aircraft mean it is complicated to work on, and specialization is needed. Cessna Chancellor (414A) Similar Aircraft Large diaphragm mics have the ability to be electrically quieter than small diaphragm models, because of the statistics relating to the interaction of individual air molecules with the diaphragm. The trade‑off is a greater degree of HF roll‑off as the capsule is used off‑axis, but as most large diaphragm mics are used on‑axis, and at fairly close range, this is rarely a disadvantage. In the case of the C3000, noise performance is defined mainly by the quality of the internal electronics, the equivalent A‑weighted input noise being 18dBA. Though this isn't as low as can be achieved by more rigorous preamp design, it is low enough to be insignificant for most typical applications. The maximum SPL that can be handled by the mic is around 140dB and a dynamic range of greater than 120dB is quoted.

As it is a highly sensitive microphone, it can also capture any studio noise. Therefore, if you don’t have a sound-treated room, this mic is not the right option for you. In 2009, the B in the model numbers finally proved to be vestigial, and the bifurcated models became the C414XLII and C414XLS. Of course, AKG added four more polar patterns to make up for losing the Bs, creating a total of nine polar patterns in these microphones, so it was a fair trade. Aircraft of similar configuration, age, and role include the Beechcraft Queen Air, AeroCommander 690, Piper Cheyenne, Beechcraft Duke, and the Piper Pa-31 Navajo. Cessna 414 Clubs You Can JoinThe C414 is probably the best-known microphone that AKG make, alongside the legendary C12. Nevertheless, the C414 has undergone a number of evolutionary changes over its long lifetime, changing shape, adding and discarding transformers, and now, in its latest incarnation, sprouting LEDs! Although the overall shape of the new versions is unmistakably C414, virtually everything about the microphone has been redesigned in an effort to retain the original sound, while at the same time improving the technical performance. AKG cite 15 improved features, though one of these relates to the depth of engraving and the colour of the infill, so clearly some are of more importance than others! Two Of A Kind The ‘Polar Pattern Available’ column on the above table is the biggest giveaway as to what makes these mics special. T hat’s not a typo, they genuinely have 9 Polar patterns. Assigned using the front panel switch, each of the 5 major positions has a middle and intermediary step for modified versions of the popular polar patterns including S upercardiod that sits between Cardioid and Hypercardioid a s well as W ide C ardioid that sits between S upercardioid and O mni patterns. The design of the Cessna 414 was to bridge the gap between their unpressurized twin, the Cessna 402, and their pressurized flagship, the Cessna 421. The new design used the same fuselage and tail as the 421 and the wing from the 402. Engines used were adaptations of the 300hp Continental TSIO-520s used on the 402. For the 414, the engines chosen were the 310hp TSIO-520-Js, with intercoolers and takeoffs for cabin bleed air pressurization. With the first flight in 1968 and production in 1970, Cessna manufactured the 414 for 17 years, with almost 1100 shipped. While arguments rage today over whether the 414 or the 421 is the better aircraft, there’s no doubt that with the 414, Cessna produced a comfortable, roomy, and stylish aircraft for personal and corporate travel. 1979 Cessna 414A Chancellor Specifications Engines There was a time in aviation history when aircraft manufacturers were falling over themselves to serve a seemingly insatiable demand for executive-level light twin-engined aircraft.
