And if a huge percentage of the recipes were already available on my blog for free or previously published in other books, I just couldn’t honestly say that! So yep, almost every single recipe is totally unique to this book, of course, with the other 1% being gluten-free Yorkshire puddings – a must at Christmas! Can you tell us what’s inside the book exactly? Yes! 99% of these recipes are exclusive to this book. As with all my books, the one thing I want everyone to feel is that they got amazing value for their money.

What: Another of 2023’s big hit cookbooks, Jeremy Lee finally brings his unique voice and liberal cooking style to a book. Lee is one of London’s truly beloved chefs - his generosity of spirit and larger than life character are legendary at Soho stalwart Quo Vadis, and his debut cookbook is equally essential.

Even with the few recipes which don’t provide a veggie or vegan option, they can still usually easily be adapted to be so using the right gluten-free and vegan alternative – so please don’t think it’s impossible! Does the book have low FODMAP recipes in it? What about lactose-free? Buy now: Time & Tide: Recipes and Stories from My Coastal Kitchen Ikoyi: A Journey Through Bold Heat with Recipes I feel that, in the current climate, this question couldn’t be more relevant! So here’s my hard sell:

What: A breakout star in the cookbook world, Lara Lee’s recipes riff on Indonesian flavours, through the lens of approachable everyday recipes that you just want to eat. A Splash of Soy takes this a step further with delicious everyday recipes like cheesy kimchi linguine with gochujang butter, and sambal patatas bravas, with pantry and vegan swaps included too. Good book for: Christmas lovers, first time Christmas dinner cooks and experienced home chefs looking for some twists on traditional favourites. Yes! I’ve clearly labelled whenever a recipe is suitable for vegetarians or vegans. If it isn’t veggie/vegan to start with, I’ve also included instructions on how to adapt it, if possible – which most of them are!

To make choosing the perfect Christmas book easier, we've pulled together some frequently asked questions so you can make sure you gift the perfect book. As much as we love eating out in London (and we really, really do), there’s nothing wrong with a home-cooked meal, especially when the recipes come from some of our favourite chefs and restaurants. Yes – tons actually! Throughout the book, I’ve clearly labelled whenever a recipe is dairy-free. And whenever a recipe isn’tdairy-free to start with, I’ve listed exactly how to make it dairy-free (if possible) for each recipe. That wasn’t so bad was it? I’m sure you want to buy 10 copies now! Does the book have dairy-free recipes in it?

of all the ingredients used are easily available in supermarkets. Apart from psyllium husk and tapioca starch that are needed for 2 recipes, you can easily source everything else you need. What: As far as chefs go, Sabrina Gidda has done it all, from running kitchens to multiple appearances on TV, supper clubs and more. Her debut cookbook is just as accomplished, bringing together a host of colourful, cookable recipes from her Punjabi upbringing, including hit dishes from her appearances on Great British Menu. What: The follow up to the excellent Taverna, Georgina Hayden delves into the traditions of fasting foods, where meat and dairy are replaced by vegetables, pulses and grains. The result is a book full of easy, delicious vegan and vegetarian dishes that will become staples in your dinner rotation. We loved Taverna too, so you could always double up and buy these both as a bundle! If you’re dairy-free, lactose-intolerant, low FODMAP, vegetarian or vegan, there’s a TON of tips on how to adapt my recipes to be friendly to all of the above, if possible. I always want my recipes to be as accessible to as many people as possible! The dinner starts when the first star appears in the sky – that explains why all the children have their noses pressed against the window glass!

IT'S the most wonderful time of the year and we’ve selected the best Christmas cookery books to get you through the festive season unscathed and cool as a cucumber. This experience was followed by a decade of ups and downs which involved trying (and often failing) to reclaim all the festive foods that were suddenly placed on ‘Santa’s naughty list’. To be honest, I’d stopped looking forward to Christmas altogether. Yes, I had become the gluten-free Grinch!

Diaries & Calendars

Whilst some recipes in this book do use onion, as I can’t tolerate it myself, you’ll find that those recipes always have an easy substitute. Don’t forget about these! (A complete list of other recipes that would be perfect for Christmas that you’ll find in my other books)
