A Catholic Movement for Older People

As Ascent members growing in age, wisdom and experience, we recognize that we are on a journey towards fullness of life in God through Jesus Christ.

Solidarity and loving, mutual support symbolize the friendship we have for one another, which we celebrate with joy.  Through our friendship we encourage and empower each other to grow in confidence and self esteem.

Our spirituality is made manifest not only in our praying together, but by sharing our understanding of scripture and its relevance to our lives, thus fostering a desire to treat   each other and all those whom we meet with love, compassion, understanding and forgiveness.

Our sense of mission invites us to see God in all people.  It encourages us to listen to     others and the needs of the world, engendering hope and responding appropriately where possible.

We acknowledge a strong unity within the internationality of our Movement whilst respecting and affirming the uniqueness of culture, persons and beliefs.  Aware of the sacredness of all God’s creation and our responsibility towards it, we commit ourselves to appreciating and saving its beauty.

Blessings of Age

"Those of us who live many years are given a marvellous chance to deepen our awareness of the mystery of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity. As the normal span of our lives increases, our physical capacities are often diminished; and yet these times may well be among the most spiritually fruitful years of our lives. These years are an opportunity to remember in affectionate prayer all those whom we have cherished in this life, and to place all that we have personally been and done before the mercy and tenderness of God. This will surely bring great spiritual comfort and enable us to discover anew his love and goodness all the days of our life."   Pope Benedict XX111 from address given at The Little Sisters of the Poor, London on18th September 2010
