Our soul waits for the Lord, who is our help and shield. For in God our hearts rejoice; in your holy name we trust. May your kindness, Lord, be upon us; we have put our hope in you. Psalm 33 v20-22
Fr Soosai Manickam on Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
Father is Head of Theology at a seminary in Calcutta and he is on a 10 month sabbatical at St Francis parish in Maidstone. On Wednesday 27th July 2012 Fr Soosai gave a talk at Aylesford to about 45 members who were on retreat. He is an incredibly dynamic priest with a powerful voice. As he spoke, there certainly was no need for the microphone as everyone was able to hear him. He based his talk on his experiences as a young seminarian in Calcutta, meeting Mother Teresa and her sisters. During her lifetime she was the only living saint who was known throughout the world. Her spirituality and unique rule of life, reaching the poorest of the poor, meant that she was quite rapidly proclaimed blessed after her death. All who heard Fr Soosai were captivated by his many anecdotes and beautiful personal descriptions of the saints life. Fr Soosai returns to Calcutta in September. May Our Blessed Lord grant him a speedy return to good health, in order that he may be ready to take up his important work at the seminary once more.
