About this deal

I don't have to downsize, but I read it anyway since I *want* to get rid of a significant amount of stuff in my current home. You have to set up your home to nurture and encourage your new life when you’ve gone through a transition. The author worked with one family that was still paying rent on a unit 20 years after putting a deceased grandmother’s things in storage. Many items you need to shed are firmly glued to you with a sticky layer of memories, sadness, anxiety, and guilt.

Walsh later suggests rolling dice or drawing straws to make this random, not based on age, etc) What wasn't chosen was sold or donated. I cannot say enough good things about Peter Walsh, and his ability to change my thinking - seriously shifting my brain to realize I do not need all this STUFF. We downsized from two homes to one years ago when I had an infant, and I could not deal with sorting through everything at that time, so my current house is not only cluttered with the extras from that consolidation, but also all the new stuff that comes with having kids. I notice that some other reviewers say that her description of how she steered and grew her company from a small cottage startup to huge software consultancy business was the least interesting part of this book.

I’m really intrigued by their Twisted Tales, like what if the Evil Queen poisoned the Prince, what if Sleeping Beauty never woke up, what if Jafar first summone the Genie and so on! The author arrived in England, aged 5, as a refugee from German, when her parents had the foresight and courage to send her and her nine year old sister on the Kinder Transport that brought Jewish children to safety in Great Britain before the start of WWII. I have been wanting to read a Peter Walsh book for awhile because I’ve heard good things from friends and am in major purge mode right now.

Peter Walsh is The New York Times best-selling author and organization expert who believes that clutter is ANYTHING that gets in the way of you living your best life. She began from such humble beginnings and went on to create her own multi-million dollar company while juggling married life and life with her autistic son. Downsizing can require you to shrink a houseful of possessions so they'll fit into a new space that may be much smaller than what you have now.
