I've been waiting for a long time to play Flamme Rouge with 6 players and Peloton is a good expansion offering not only 2 extra players but a solo version as well. Yes, some will be playing Sprinteurs and some will be playing Roleurs, but it’s each player for themselves in a knock-down drag-out race to the finish line. The new road layouts are interesting, and even when playing with fewer than 5-6 players I still always enjoy playing with the new tiles (cobblestones etc). The box cover shows the iconic cobblestone races that are represented with new tiles in the game; these tiles are mostly one space wide, occasionally two, and don’t allow slip streaming. It is an ingeniously clever system as you bide your time to breakaway from the pack, the tension building, always leading to an exhilarating finish.

If you are wanting to play with fewer players, the included Dummy Teams add the option for solo play or simply toss them into a two, three, or four player game for added traffic. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This module also makes set up a process as sexy as pulling on that spandex racing gear I insist on wearing for every game of Flamme Rouge. The winners of the blind bid will lose those cards from their deck, so they don’t want to lose their best cards, but likewise no one wants the breakaway riders to get those prime spots too easily.

You may end up spending your very high cards to get through them quickly – but if you’re not in a good position at the start of the cobblestone, this is where you get in trouble. As I mentioned in the opening paragraph, one of the key additions in Peloton is that you can now add a fifth and sixth player. It’s a lot of strategy without a bunch of complicated rules, and the simple variance in the track width shows off the versatility of the system. Flamme Rouge: Peloton includes variants for solo play and for games with up to twelve players, each controlling only one rider. Flamme Rouge: Peloton, the first expansion for Flamme Rouge, offers a chase group of four riders (pink and white rouleurs and sprinters) that allows the base game to be played with up to six players. Only two decks of movement cards stand between you and glory… well, plus the other racers and a couple of mountains, but who’s counting hey? Whilst simple in its design, I would say that this is a 'Must Have' expansion as I wouldn't think of playing without it. Once again, these new tiles add a little strategy as you think about how to enter and leave the supply zones to maximize the benefit.

The setup and race maintenance for either team is incredibly easy and doesn’t interrupt the excitement of the race.

Flamme Rouge - Peloton, the first expansion for Flamme Rouge, offers a chase group of four riders (pink and white rouleurs and sprinters) that allows the base game to be played with up to six players. Firstly it adds two new teams to extend your races up to 6 players, and some wider stretches of track to accommodate these extra riders. Sometimes there will be more players and the ability to accommodate them is something that will get Flamme Rouge more table time.

And everything in this release is supported in the Flamme Rouge Companion App I mentioned in the original review. There are supply zone tiles and a bonus tile which provide a minimum speed of 4 and still allow for slipstreaming. Since play is simultaneous, adding 2 more people hardly extends the length of the game, although it does make the outcome of each round harder to predict.Still, be aware it’s an option, especially if you really enjoy the game and don’t have a lot of opportunities to play with a group. Starting any game of Flamme Rouge at the back of the pack has always left a bitter taste in my mouth.
