Description

In this gruesomely fascinating book, former journalist and renowned suspense novelist McDermid (The Skeleton Road) explains the science behind solving crimes. And then there's a complex set of relationships between characters, so complex I'm not even going to try to cover it here, but I did enjoy the presence of the thirteen year old feisty girl, Tenille. The manuscript is supposed to be about Christian Fletcher who led the mutiny on the bounty against Captain Bligh.

A fatal car accident that was anything but accidental has jarred loose a stash of methamphetamines and cash that’s become the center of a battle between the Sons of Freedom, Bakken County’s traditional drug sellers, and MS-13, the Salvadorian upstarts who are muscling in on their territory. Thomas Harris crossed with Agatha Christie, if you will… The Grave Tattoo is a great read; England’s heritage history has never been so chilling.vividly contrasts marginal subsistence in London's dismal Marshpool neighborhood with the Lake District's bucolic lifestyle. Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. If you believe that every patch of ground comes with its own story, then Val McDermid is the storyteller for you. It was rumoured that the poet had written an epic verse recounting Christian’s version of events, only to hide it away for fear its publication would result in his arrest. Val has served as a judge for the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Man Booker Prize, and was Chair of the Wellcome Book Prize in 2017.

She is the recipient of six honorary doctorates and is an Honorary Fellow of St Hilda’s College, Oxford. And there he told his story to an old friend and schoolmate, William Wordsworth, who turned it into a long narrative poem – a poem that remained hidden lest it expose Wordsworth to the gallows for harbouring a fugitive. And in Wordsworth scholar Jane Gresham, McDermid has created a character whose keen intellect matches her generous heart. A literary mystery as a lost Wordsworth letter and a very old body are found in the Lake District, with a second plot based on a murder on an East London sink estate. This was my first Val McDermid novel and I was pleasantly rewarded with a pacey story that creates warm, memorable characters set against a Cumbrian backdrop so vividly described one can almost smell the rain. I am not a great Wordsworth fan but have visited Dove Cottage and am familiar with that area of the Lake District. I wasn’t sure whether I was to believe the factual details or enjoy the fictional story I was being told. Too wrapped up in her own fascination with history here to remember to think about character, plot, intrigue and suspense.

Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. Set in Manchester, England, which its natives claim as the home of rock 'n' roll, the forthright and unpretentious sleuth introduced in this fast-paced story is sure to win readers' hearts.A cold winter day and a couple of sleepy cats, however, proved the right formula for finishing this book. parties racing to find papers and identities, some mostly honorable, some less so, some distinctly nasty. Jane couldn’t remember a time when Langmere Force hadn’t mesmerised her, taking her out of what ever ailed her and making her feel healed. Wordsworth specialist Jane Gresham, herself a native of the Lake District, feels compelled to discover once and for all whether the manuscript ever existed - and whether it still exists today. It does make a difference when you know what the scenery and villages actually look like - sharpens the imagery, I think.
