Discover more about “Made in Italy”, a label synonymous throughout the world with refined materials, attention to detail, and creativity. While all but one of the models we tested are dishwasher-safe, if you can, it’s best to hand-wash the hinged squeezers since pulp can sometimes get caught in the nooks and crannies of the hinges. This was an issue with the other manual countertop press we tried, too, but that one had a handle for this purpose.

The reamers were the messiest of them all, but this made sense as they were the closest thing to juicing by hand. It’s a smaller version of our favorite reamer above, but with only one reamer dish that’s made for smaller citrus fruits. We did have to cut some particularly poky ends off of a few lemons to get them to work in this squeezer, but it’s a good thing to do anyway, and an incredibly minor inconvenience—especially when you’re already slicing lemons in half. The Oxo Good Grips Citrus Squeezer is Oxo’s handheld citrus press, made from coated die-cast aluminum. It feels a little light compared to our previous top pick, the Chef’n FreshForce; it would be nice if it had just a little more heft.

Additionally, lemon oils left small amounts of residue on the squeezers we tested that had exposed metal, but it took only a tiny bit of elbow grease to scrub off. While the yield wasn’t bad at 36%, it took us the longest to juice with this juicer (7 minutes total). The handheld reamer, which is held in one hand while the lemon or lime is held in the other, is a relatively new adaptation of the traditional glass or plastic citrus reamer (with a juice rim) that was placed on a table and pressed downward. The Oxo Good Grips 2-in-1 Citrus Juicer extracts like a traditional reamer but without the usual mess that comes from shoving a sharp point into a citrus half because the reamer sits on top of a measuring cup. This juicer efficiently extracted juice from lemons, limes, and mandarins (larger oranges and grapefruit won’t fit), and it left a neat little compact puck each time.

In fact, I got this for a Christmas gift for my sister in law, but I know I’ll be coming back to get one of my own in the future. The way the top and bottom fit together with the center bump made it more awkward to squeeze the fruit. The clever design of the Joseph Joseph Catcher allows it to catch all the pips and fruit pulp, while still allowing the citrus juice to drain through. While we appreciate dishwasher-safe parts, citrus juicers are easy tools to clean—especially because citrus juice is often used as a cleaning agent—and we didn’t deduct points for hand-wash-only parts. Unlike electric masticating juicers, which turn the fruit into pulp and then extract the juice, these manual styles are considered cold-press juicers and they each have their pros and cons. The Chef’n Citrus Juicester countertop model trailed closely behind, yielding 37% juice in just over 5 minutes. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. A handy tool in any kitchen and one that will be around for many years due to its hard wearing nature. And nested away inside you’ll find its etched stainless steel zester, which removes delicious zest in seconds.
