Her classmates, including Jack and his idiot friends, begin to make fun of her, speak ill of her, spread rumors of her and bully her. Like in All the Bright Places, these characters are only their physical traits or illnesses and that is extremely harmful.

Both Jack and Libby seemed to think that they could become better people if they fell in lurvee, which is not a good plot. The author herself struggled with weight issues and anxiety over the years, particularly as a teenager, so this writing comes from the heart. The game leads to Jack and Libby having to take part in group counselling, and though Libby can't stand him at first, as the two get to know each other, for the first time, they both felt seen - Libby sees the person behind the front, Jack sees the person beyond the weight - and everything changes. Libby's anxiety was born from the death of her mother, who died out of the blue because of an aneurysm.
