The plot is well constructed, the clues not too easy and there is a satisfyingly gathering momentum to the book which makes it a real page-turner. The book is set in the 1930s and references a range of other novels, possibly unintentionally, from the four turrets of the building reminiscent of Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers series, to Harry Potterish creeping around in the dark at boarding school, which will delight many readers.

But when Mr Arthur dies in mysterious circumstances, Justice soon has a list of questions in her journal: why hasn't he been given a proper military funeral? We also read about the school and while I loved reading about the building, the lessons, the schedules, the food (Dead baby whut? Once I got used to that (I have to admit to being a little excited for a modern day mg sleuthing book. This book is great for anyone who loves a good tale that includes a matron doing her rounds at night with clumping shoes, a head mistress who is a bit too good to be true and missing teachers.
