Product quality is essential, you don’t want to spend time struggling with machinery, you want to be sewing! I have just purchased online from Hobbycraft the 4400 as I am a relative beginner (did some sewing in my late teens but now 74).

I also have the Sailrite LSZ-1 portable walking foot, and I use pretty much exclusively v92 thread with it. It came with many attachments I am happy with my purchase I feel I made a great choice and bought a great machine. And in theory, that's what I want for her - - but I really can't tell what is "heavy duty" about the machines other than their metal frame/case. Personally I do not care for the horizontal spool pin nor the alternate piece of plastic to use it on a vertical axis (optional spool pin). The 525S also has an auto-declutch bobbin winder and is supplied with a two speed foot controller and a hard cover.HD3000 is easy to operate, and it can be used for the variety of sewing projects to produce professional quality results. The LE5027 is another nice electronic (mostly mechanical) machine that is nicely equipped with fewer dec stitches and is very strong machine also with adjustable presser foot pressure and needle up/down. It has everything you need for a wide range of sewing projects and it will sew heavy fabrics and leather which is such a great feature.

Mechanical sewing machines are the best to learn on, and a good-quality machine like the HD 3000 is super easy to navigate. I don't think new portable sewing machines are even made that have only straight stitch and zig zag, (and no other stitches at all in them) metal gears and also can sew chiffon. I’m thinking of getting another smaller one that will use the 7mm feet (there are two I want but cannot use on my 9mm machine) and it could be a backup if my machine is in service, if I want to sew with someone else or travel with one. so I went with Janome HD1800 (which is a European equivalent to Janome HD3000 with nearly all features identical, just another name - see detailed comparison and review below. This almost isn't worth mentioning if not for it absolutely not working, no matter what I've tried it on and setting adjustments I've made. Many people who have used both but learned to sew on a mechanical machine, prefer the simplicity of the older style. I like the idea of mechanical over computerized because that just sounds more fixable, but it wasn't the computer that went out on her singer.

I generally figure this is a machine that needs to suffice for a few years until I have space and not moving multiple times a year for an industrial straight stitch, and this seems to fit the bill. Stitch length and width adjustment are conveniently located on the front of the machine, and a hard cover comes standard for easy storage. I would highly recommend this to anyone whether you are getting your first machine or needing a heavy duty machine. To reduce the risk of fire, never leave vintage electrical or electronic products plugged in unattended. As with any piece of electrical equipment, it's a good idea to have it serviced by a qualified repair professional. If you’d like to file an allegation of infringement, you’ll need to follow the process described in our Copyright and Intellectual Property Policy. This machine is best used by families who have multiple people who might want to use it at various times. I’d be purchasing slightly ahead so I can have it pretty much as soon as I’m moved, because I know myself well engouh to know I’ll need to use it almost right away.

A solid and reliable mechanical machine with a decent number of stitch pattern, free arm, hard cover, and a nice selection of accessories, and able to handle some really heavy fabrics and multiple layers. ive started getting in to making general things, ranging from electronics to woodworking, and my current main project is making a costume of Donkey from Shrek (so faux fur and other assorted fabrics), along with plans to make other such costumes to wear to the likes of (local) comic cons in the future. If a domestic machine like the above mentioned Janome or Juki does what someone needs to sew, great. One thing is you have to be very careful when sewing multiple thick layers that the presser foot doesn't overcome the load spring holding it down. It's quicker and easier to thread by hand and this is from someone loosing my near vision from age and having very shaky hands. Among these parts are a spool holder, lint brush, screwdriver, additional spool pin, seam ripper, bobbin, power cord, foot control and instruction manual.
