Anyway I was pretty on board with this book until the very end, just like the last book. The author throws us a punch to the teeth. This couple has suffered plenty, and the twist at the end, concerning their baby, hurt my heart and pissed me off. They didn’t deserve that. 🤬 I lift my weighted, dazed eyes open to find heated green-blue flames within his. As a dark shadow of possessiveness moves into his eyes, he jolts up to grab my throat. His fingers twist against the pulsing rhythm of my pussy, setting me off completely. “No after the first chapter it was clear that it’s one of these trashy wattpad romances but i was totally in for it even tho the writing was terrible. but every single time i thought it can’t be worse nicci harris proved me wrong.

Max is the quintessential bad boy mafia- alpha hole and while I loved how raw and carnal his character was, my favorite moments were the quiet spaces in between, where he allowed himself to be vulnerable (or at least attempted to) for Cassidy. no cheating on each other while together - the h cheats on her fiance with the H when they first see each other again after a TEN YEAR separation.

Max is notorious for just having lots of causal sex with women, he isn’t one to commit. Cassidy is aware of this and she seems more like the relationship type. She hasn’t yet lost her virginity. He has a dark intimidating presence, hinting at a life lived hard and fierce. He is a man of few words, but his actions cut straight to the point. In heat?? Gross. That’s another thing with this book. Most of the dialogue was cringy like extremely cringy. The way the sex scenes were written, the “sex talk”. It was bad. We have Cassidy, an 18 year old ballerina who lives, breath, and sleeps dance. But has had a crush on Max Butcher since he saved her brother when they were children. She only finally gets close to him on her 18th birthday due to her friend hanging out with him. So we go on an emotionally roller coaster of what they will lead to or if it will be anything at all. People from the outside who don't know them would have seen them as a toxic couple, but Cassidy and Max know each other best and what they want from each other so that other people's opinions don't matter.

But he finds me infuriating. A silly little girl. He wants to keep me out of his business and away from him and other men. He wants to protect my body - protect my innocence. They'll both have to fight for their happy ending what ever that looks like in the corrupted world they live in ♡ I relish the elevated romance within Cosa Nostra as the lines between love, desire, and obsession begin to blur creating an eruption of forbidden passion and ecstasy. Max and Cassidy's relationship is the type of love story that you love to hate, innately they know its bad for them, but like a slut for punishment they pursue it anyway because in the immortal words of Cassidy, "avoiding conflict to prevent a battle, can often start a war on your heart."

This one had the slight edge for me on the previous book in the series and this one unlike the first is definitely set firmly in the criminal underbelly. This is Cassidy Slater and Max Butchers story Cassidy is the baby Sister of Konnor and Max is a key player in the district. Max plays rugby and goes to university and the gym when he can. The work he does for his family means that he tends to be needed a lot at short notice. I adore Max and Cassidy and 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠! Cassidy is sweet, considerate and talented. She wears her heart on her sleeves, Max on the flip side is hard to read. He is also known to be a playboy and claims he doesn’t do monogamy, yet he is different around his 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞. He has a soft spot for her and can’t stay away from her though he knows he should. That term of endearment makes me swoon every time he says it 😍 This book started off with me wondering where it was going to go, they were happy and then BAM it hit me with an emotional rollercoaster 😭 I wasn't expecting to get in my feels like that especially at the note from Max ♡ Gosh these two are just ugh light and darkness encarnate, two people so different yet they save each other in their own ways.

Now I find myself not wanting to end this review, because that means their story is over, and it breaks my heart. The story starts off with Cassidy finishing a dance tour and heading home to her 18th birthday party with her gay best friend Toni. There she meets the tall, sexy, intimidating Max. Growing up as a Butcher boy, he is no stranger to violence but he struggles to find his place in the Empire of Corruption. Nicci gave us an epic love story full of passion, and super steamy, spicy but not without the angst: it seems like many of my unicorn authors, Nicci likes to torture you, in the best way: she’s given us this gritty Australian Mafia Romance that is so dark and delicious that you never want to leave. Max is the until alpha-hole - tall, dark, and hot as hell. He and his brothers are known as bad news around town, but when Cassidy catches Max’s attention, it’s all she can do to remain en pointe. As for Max, well, he makes no secret about the fact that he doesn’t do monogamy. But the more he sees (or even thinks about) Cassidy with anyone else, the more Max starts re-evaluating his priorities. There’s a couple of twists, one I saw coming and one I didn’t. And that one ruined me. Like snot dribbling, ugly crying got me. And that friggin’ letter. I WAS A MESS!!!

OW drama - the H isn’t quite ready to commit to the h at first and he’s up front about that. The h sees him with a couple different women. It’s unclear if he has relations with them. But once he commits, and he does pretty early, he’s all in. She does find him with a naked woman after a bachelor party, before they’ve committed, but after they’re pretty emotionally and physically invested, and he swears he didn’t have sex with her. He claims that the night proved to him that he could be monogamous and he commits to the h from that point on… the h is on the fence about whether or not she believes him, but decides what matters is what he does from that point on. 😬🤷🏼‍♀️ the h is a sweet innocent 18 year old ballerina - I thought she was great. She’s loyal and practical and has big dreams Nicci Harris has created something powerfully dark and mesmerizing within the district that is equal parts exciting and disturbing. She shines in crafting novels that toe the line between dark and dangerous, and sweet and sexy, which culminates into a deliciously sinful story of passion, truth, and acceptance.

The end of this book made it for me. Ugh. It was so good. I cried. CRIED. THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE LAST 20%I really wanted to dislike this book because damn was Cassidy annoying, but for the life of me I couldn’t. It was everything. Max Butcher is without a doubt going to make your panties drop and walk themselves to the laundry basket because there’s no point in wearing any when Maxipad is about. The guy has every lustful book boyfriend trait all perfectly moulded into a tattooed hunk of a man. He’s broody, possessive, alpha, charming, sweet, sexy…. And the stamina of the man JEBUS (IYKYK)
