About this deal

Spencerfield Spirits has more than just whisky on the market. They also produced the celebrated Edinburgh Gin. But they are probably best known for their Sheep Dip, a blend of 8 year ols whisky, that has been on the market since 1970. Seven years later, this Pig’s Nose was released, which is – if you believe the label – as soft as the nose of a pig. Insiders claim it to be a blend of Lowland, Speyside and Islay whisky on top of a base of grain whiskies. They have been quite successful in their endeavours to create high quality Whisky, and have been met with accolades from top critics. The name “Pig’s Nose” is derived from its easy, mellow character. As it says on the label, “‘Tis said our scotch is as soft and smooth as a pig’s nose.”

It recalls the oak of the barrel, which brings some deeper, mellower tones to the dram. These go well with the cereal notes of the nose. Comes across a bit watery at this proof. A brief rest in the glass opens up more sweetness in the form of vanilla buttercream frosting.

The key to Pigs Nose Whiskey’s success is its unique blend of malts from Speyside, Highlands, Islay and Lowlands whiskeys. This creates a sweet and smooth finish with heathery floral notes and underlying hints of smokey peat. It has a smoky flavour balanced with dry oak wood spices. The light bodied spirit allows for easy sipping making this enjoyable even if you don’t usually like peaty whiskies. The following indicators should be taken as only a guide and not a set of hard and fast rules. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars. I'd drunk all the whiskies that I'd had before, then I started in on the entry level single malts that I'd never tried before.Pigs Nose Scotch is a blended Scotch whiskey that was first produced in the early- to mid-1980s. This type of Scotch whisky gets its name from its distinctively rounded ‘pig’s nose’ bottle shape, which makes it easily distinguishable on shelves amongst other brands. The blending process combines malted barley, grain whisky, and single malt whiskies to create the perfect balance between smoky and sweet flavors associated with Scotland’s native drink. It is bottled at 40% ABV and has been awarded numerous awards throughout its existence.

Short spicy dry finish with the caramel and honey coming through clean as day. The peat reappears for a second and then disappears again.Regardless of whether the Service offers the functionality to contribute, you are solely responsible and liable for any content and information that you create, upload, post, publish, link to, duplicate, transmit, record, display or otherwise make available on the Service or to other Members, such as chat messages, text messages, videos, audio, audio recordings, music, pictures, photographs, text and any other information or materials, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted (“Contributions”). Now I'd tried it's big brother, Sheep Dip Old Hebridean 1990 Vintage, a smokey giant vatted whisky involving malts from Ardbeg, Dalmore and Fettercairn. There is also a burst if apples and lemons that serve to give a lovely tang against the smooth toffee, which eventually melts into caramel.

Palate: Syrupy body. Mild tongue burn, and not as watery as the aroma suggested even at 40% ABV. Sweetness emerges first, with light toffee and white chocolate. Next, the grain appears in the form of fresh hay and puffed oats. Lastly, the peat leaves a twist of earthiness. Pig’s Nose Whiskey is a delightful spirit made in Scotland that combines the strength of Scotch whisky and the smoothness of Irish whiskey together to create a unique blend. The distillation process used to make this whiskey is quite complex and requires several steps, ranging from milling and mashing the grain all the way through to bottling. Initial burst in the mouth is caramel, then honey, oranges, more caramel, hint of stewed prune, lots of different spices, bit of pepper. Not much of a finish to speak of. But there is nothing unpleasant in the aftertaste, so it has that going for it. One way to better understand Pig Noses Scotch’s flavor profile is to try each step in its production process separately – starting with its foundation grain (malted barley), followed by aging in ex-bourbon barrels and finishing off with blending it together with peated malt.
