Also, my other issue with this book is that it seemed the plot was going in circles sometimes and unlike book one, this was more repetitive. And similar to the world-building issue, I'm trying to word this correctly, but there shouldn't be as many new reveals especially as we're heading towards the end of Flesh and Fire and Blood and Ash series because I'm trying to connect the dots and I'm struggling. I don’t have her other skills—the ability to see what is hidden or known,” Penellaphe added. “Nor have I received any other visions.” I nodded slowly, forcing my thoughts past the whole Sotoria thing. I had to. All of that was just too much. “But what I did has already drawn their attention. It’s not like we can pretend it hasn’t happened.” But then she started to really admit to herself and come to terms with her feelings and respect others which really made her character better.

In old Primal language, graeca meant life. But as Aios had said, it was also interchangeable with the word love. Kolis already knows that there is something here with the power to create life,” Penellaphe interjected, ignoring the furious glare Nyktos sent her. “But as Nyktos said, Kolis is no fool. He sent the dakkais as a warning. A way of showing Nyktos that he is very much aware.” The eather stirred once more in Nyktos’s eyes at the mention of the Primal Kolis, who every mortal—including myself until recently—believed to be the Primal of Life and the King of Gods. But Kolis was the true Primal of Death. The one who’d impaled gods on the Rise surrounding the House of Haides just to remind Nyktos that all life was easily extinguished—or so I assumed. And it was a logical assumption. Nyktos’s father had been the true Primal of Life, and Kolis had stolen Eythos’s embers. Penellaphe’s rosy blush momentarily distracted me because there was definitely something going on there. This book begins right where the last one left off, with world-shifting reveals changing everything sor Sera and Nyktos. Sera is adjusting to her truths about herself, the life that she will be living in the Shadowlands, and the part that she has to play in an ancient prophecy. She is also coming to realise that she may have the opportunity to live a life that she never thought she would. She is feeling free for the very first time, and she absolutely blossoms.

He knows something is here. He already sent his dakkais and draken, as I’m sure you know.” Nyktos pinned Holland with a hard stare, and the Arae arched a dark brow. “Kolis hasn’t shown in the Shadowlands since he betrayed my father, but that doesn’t mean he can’t. I assume that if you know whether he can or cannot enter the Shadowlands,” he said to Holland, “it’s something you won’t be able to answer.” The problem with Nyktos' plan is that he expects Sera to value her life more than she actually does, for her to stay still and to not run into battle any chance she gets and to not be willing to still fulfill her duty, "make him fall in love with her and then kill him." But "him" it's not Nyktos, it has never been. It's Kolis. The fake Primal of Life. Nothing could be gained from Nyktos’s expression. Unease took root. “What are you two even talking about?” Being his Consort will offer you some level of protection,” Penellaphe said, looking at Nyktos. “Until then, any Primal could make a move against her. Even a god. And it would be unlikely you’d have the other Primals’ support if you retaliated. The politics of our Courts?” Penellaphe sent me a sympathetic grimace. “They are rather archaic.”

If you have read all the FBAA books then you know they get their HEA (kind of, in terms of love) so you know that no matter what happens in these books that they will be in love and have children. Sera will become the primal of life and LOVE somehow saves them. A love that Ash admits he cannot feel, not because of Sera but because he removed his kardia aka the part of himself he would have needed to feel love and the facets of it.please, when sera realized she was in love with nyk, i was in tears 😭 and oh my god when he sensed her love but didn’t know what it meant— She has trouble slowing her heart and breathing sometimes,” Holland shared quietly— and unnecessarily. It was,” Penellaphe confirmed. “It wasn’t as strong as when a Primal enters Arcadia, and the Fates raise another to take their place, but every god and Primal would’ve felt the shift of energy that occurred. Especially Hanan.” Worry pinched her brow. As the Primal of the Hunt and Divine Justice, Hanan oversaw the Court that Bele had been born into. “He will know that another has risen to a power that could challenge his.” The irony of it all made me want to laugh, except I was going to die. Likely in less than five months and before I turned twenty-one, taking the last true embers of life with me. The mortal realm would be hit first and the hardest. Eventually, the Rot would spread beyond the Shadowlands to all of Iliseeum.

A Light in the Flame starts off right after A Shadow in the Ember. Sera's plan has been brought to light and now she must live with the consequences of her actions. Although living with those who don't trust her, she focuses on her end goal - ending Kolis, the false King of the Gods. Nyktos has a plan to get them through and finish Kolis off for good - however Sera is starting to feel like more than a Consort in name, she's beginning to feel a lot more towards Nyktos even though he can't reciprocate her feelings. Pushing on closer to her Culling, Sera's embers are growing. Growing into something that she may not be able to contain anymore. Will she survive Ascension? Their romance also has this doomed and tragic quality to it that makes it more gripping and intense, and I have to say that while I love Cas, I feel that Nyktos has more personality and individuality. He has his issues and worries, and it’s not all about Sera, there are also moments about him and his problems, and he has his character arc. I could go on and on about how much I love him, but I have a character limit to respect so I will simply say that he is perfection and strawberries and chocolate and I want one just like that for Christmas please, and thank you. I sat on the edge of the dais, fighting the pressure as it threatened to return to my chest. “I saw Kolis not that long ago.” Of course A Light in the Flame is not all problems, battles and sadness. There are so very spicy, sexy times that had me sweating and wishing I could find my own Ash.You carry the only true embers of life inside you,” Nyktos said, and that deep, softly spoken voice sent a myriad of shivers over my skin. “For all intents and purposes, you are the Primal of Life.”
