Rehab is part of Initio’s Hedonist collection (white bottles). This was a project to source super high quality natural ingredients to create a nearly all natural luxurious blend. OfG is a mature scent more suited for the 25-up. Listed as unisex (but leans masculine) and best for fall, winter and cool spring nights. If you’re unfamiliar with Oud for Greatness, then I’d say Oud For Happiness Eau de Parfum reminds me of just-ripe citrus fruits piled high at a bustling market in the East, the warming scent of spice, heady perfumes and exotic food stalls consuming the air around you. It’s easy to understand why Initio Oud for Happiness is so popular. Yes, it’s not particularly complex but it’s beautifully blended in a friendly Western style.

You’re left with a smooth creamy and slightly powdery nutty almond vibe with a hint of vanilla sweetness and subtle floral undertones. A little goes a LONG way… so, be careful not to overspray… 2 sprays MAX and you’re set for about 6–8 plus hours!The final scent of this blend is open to interpretation, much like most Initio perfumes. Some find this sexy perfume to be very sensual. Others find it mostly smooth. This final category of people might think it’s smooth as the typical harsh tobacco note in perfumes is very subtle here and probably well-blended beyond expectations. It then calms down to create a gorgeous scent bubble around you and lasts an impressive 7–10 plus hours. Be careful not to overspray this one. You only need 1–2 sprays MAX or this could become annoying to others around you (it will fill a room!).

But what is really frightening is how precisely and accommodatingly the fragrance Oud for Greatness performs this tightrope act. Oud for Greatness by Initio was launched in 2018. Many consider it the best oud perfume, but it’s more than that. It features saffron, nutmeg, and lavender in its top notes. Oud is the star of the drydown. Patchouli, ambergris, and musk are its base accords.This works well all year round, except in the high summer heat: special occasions, dates, work/office safe (spray lightly), casual, nights out, etc… If you like that type of fragrance, then I think you are going to LOVE Rehab. That said, as Rehab dries down it takes its very own intoxicating direction… This bold claim is somewhat exaggerated, but the Initio colognes have been a bit mystical but mostly sensual as interpreted by experts. If you think they come from another planet, you will find their creators are known figures in the fragrance community. They include Alberto Morillas and Alexandra Kosinski.

This is super long lasting. Side Effect is an EDP and has great projection (about 4ft) for the first 3 hours and leaves a gorgeous scent trail. The sunny, joyful tone comes from tart bergamot, which is energised by a generous dash of hot and spicy ginger (an exhilarating aphrodisiac). Sweet, woody cedar – a thujopsene-wood that boasts impressive tonifying properties – mingles alongside soft and anisic liquorice as a green blast of herbs is sprinkled throughout. The scent becomes warmer and more comforting and loses nothing of its beautiful character. What surprises me most is that it smells like it was just sprayed on. How does that work!!! I remember how the waitress from the perfumery sprayed from half a meter on my hand, which impresses me all the more because the fragrance is so intense and "unmistakable". Oud For Greatness will make you say 'wow'. It’s fresh because of the cool lavender, it’s spicy because of the saffron and it’s sensual because of the soft musks. For us, this is an oud everyone could love as its presence is not overpowering; it's beautifully balanced with the earthiness of patchouli and the finest natural ouds from India. This perfume is neither masculine nor feminine. You will try to categorize it yourself only to realize there’s no point to this approach. It smells sexy and it elevates this attractive sensual scent on almost any person.This has to be one of the most popular ouds we’ve ever launched; even those who dislike ouds love this scent. And is Oud For Greatness unisex? Absolutely. The oud is woody and very fine, not a trace of animalistic and the smoky character it gets only in the later course. But there is always only one nuance and the smoky character never drowns out the woody part of the oud. There is a certain depth, or rather another layer, given to the fragrance by the oud, with the ostentatious sweetness providing the base note and the rest filling in the highs. The lavender provides a balanced freshness and nutmeg adds a bit of pep, so the fragrance finally becomes a bit more tangible, and they not only make the overall picture a bit more fruity in combination with the sweetness, but with the patchouli-musk base they also take responsibility for the masculine vein that is inherent in the fragrance. It should be mentioned that no note plays by itself, but all notes are well coordinated with each other. That makes all the notes individually recognizable, but if you concentrate on something else, even for a split second, the boundaries blur again and everything becomes one. After a few hours the oud gives way and becomes smokier and smokier, the patchouli takes up more space for itself and slowly comes to the fore, but without completely displacing the oud. As a result, the fragrance becomes increasingly velvety and grainy as time goes by, until it reaches the base note, which is surprisingly much more classic than the top note would have suggested. Once you get to the base note, the fragrance has shed its fruity character and appears somewhat drier and spicy, perhaps even a bit leathery. The oud no longer steams, the freshness fades away and it gets a bit cooler. One is left with a still image that doesn't change much in the picture, but only decreases in intensity. It all began when I entered a small but very well sorted niche perfumery in Florence, run by an elderly couple. Well, maybe you know this when you're in a perfumery and you immediately notice bottles that you've never seen before. It always makes you curious. But at this perfumery, everything except Creed, MFK and Amouage was foreign to me. Everything.
