Description

This unspolit former fishing village is a real gem and in Playa de Garita boasts one of the best beaches on Lanzarote. Playa Quemada Columbian history, rugged terrain, and honey rum - more on that later - La Gomera is cheese to Tenerife’s chalk. It’s amountainous island, criss-crossed by long, winding roads, with a coastline dominated by dramatic cliffs - and few beaches.

Want to explore Lanzarote's many attractions, such as the Timanfaya National Park and the Jameos del Agua? While Lanzarote is known for its volcanoes, it’s also home to some incredible natural caves, created by lava tubes. One of the best things to do in Lanzarote is go on a tour of Cueva de los Verdes. Created 22,000 years ago by a lava river that solidified on the top, this volcanic tube is 7km long. The magical pool in Cueva de los Verdes If you want to catch a more modern and metropolitan side of Lanzarote then visit Arrecife, the island's capital. Here you will find a lively port city, shaped both by its seafaring past and its current, rapid regeneration. La Frontera’s boho-feel El Sitio (doubles from €50) occupies a thoughtfully converted, sustainably run bodega with seven lava-stone casitas and views across El Golfo. Or stay at the east-coast Parador de El Hierro (doubles from €97), which has an elegant historical look, a pool with a view of the Atlantic and a smart restaurant.

Puerto del Carmen

Nowhere else is the Canary Islands’ volcanic genesis more dramatically evident than on Lanzarote. Jagged lava formations, stark volcanic cones and craters all the shades of sunset create a unique and unforgettable landscape. Even the vineyards look otherworldly, with vibrant green vines sprouting with implausible vigour from the ashy, lunar terrain. For family-friendly resort life, plus golden beaches and a bustling marina that’s perfect for people watching,Playa Blanca comes up trumps. It’s also where you catch the forty-minute ferry to Fuerteventura. Speaking of ferries, for a more remote (and incredibly beautiful)beach experience, head to tinyLa Graciosa - a picture-perfect place to get away from it all for the day. Lanzarote Tourist Attractions A list of the most popular places and attractions to visit during your stay in Lanzarote

El Chiringuito in Arrieta – A great bar for mojitos! Very reasonable and right on the beach with a lovely view. It offers a wide range of holiday styles from studio apartments overlooking the lively beach road to luxury private villas in the exclusive Los Mojones area perched on a clifftop overlooking the harbour and out to sea. Costa Teguise Although many of the activities revolve around the beach, with windsurfing in particular being very well catered for (as a result of the wind here), there isplenty moreto do in and around Costa Teguise than just soak up the sun. Costa Teguise Beaches Where to Stay in Lanzarote Need help deciding where to stay in Lanzarote? Use our guide to Lanzarote’s tourist resort towns to help you choose.

Costa Teguise is the least sheltered of Lanzarote´s main resorts as well as the most northerly. As a result, during the winter months, it can be cooler, cloudier and windier here than in resort rivals to the south. Which in part explains why it has fallen behind Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca to become Lanzarote´s number 3 resort. To see the magical side of Manrique’s vision in situ, head toJameos del Agua. The first visitor attraction Manrique designed, this mood-music accompanied fantasy journey through a gorgeous volcanic grotto and underground lagoon really is out-of-this-world. Playa Blanca is home to some large resort complexes and several high quality hotels. Accommodation here is generally more upmarket than in the other two resorts, with the hotels being in the higher price range and private rentals being almost exclusively villas. As you explore the foundation there are videos and pieces of information, so you’ll leave having learned a lot about Lanzarote’s most famous resident. Visit Papagayo Beach for stunning views Cycle to Caribbean-worthy Playa de las Conchas, hike up Las Agujas Grandes or Montaña Amarilla volcanoes, swim at golden Playa Francesa and wander the “capital”, Caleta de Sebo, with its views of Lanzarote’s Famara cliffs. La Graciosa sits within the Parque Natural del Archipiélago Chinijo, which protects various uninhabited surrounding islets known for their rich birdlife; explore them with conservation-focused Eco-Insider.
