Paramount's glossy-smooth SteelBook features some classic original artwork on the front, with the film's title situated at the top in familiar script and whether old decrepit building facades, dirt terrain, baskets, and other local flavors. This leap in sharpness carries through the whole film, from the opening idol snatching sequence all the way to the climactic scenes with the opened Ark. The film feels absolutely brand new at this resolution, and This oversight has taken what should have been a noteworthy upgrade and made it questionable for fans that have reveled in its attributes. My Atmos rating system doesn’t have a parameter that takes low frequency effects into account so this will be reflected under the Entertainment Factor rating parameter. Raiders of the Lost Ark is getting yet another release on disc, this time a standalone 4K Blu-ray release on June 14th. This is the first time it will be available outside of the Indiana Jones 4K box set and comes in a nifty Steelbook featuring artwork we have seen a bazillion times. It also includes a poster this time, however! Nothing new on the disc, which is a shame. You can see the latest release of Raiders of the Lost Ark below. Raiders’ was restored from the original negatives (overseen by Steven Spielberg) and remastered with a new 4k digital intermediate for Ultra HD Blu-ray. The movie is presented in 2160p (4k) with Dolby Vision and HDR10 providing an expanded color range. The 4k HDR video bit rate ranged between 50 and 60Mbps with peaks into the low 80s. I remember my father took me to see Raiders of the Lost Ark at the theater when it came out in 1981. My parents divorced when I was seven and Raiders was the first movie he and I saw together. It was a special event all around and I was immediately a fan. For him it reminded him of the serials he used to see at the movies when he was a boy and for me it represented something I really hadn’t experienced in a film to that point. I knew Harrison Ford from Star Wars but, heroes for me either had laser pistols, superpowers or rode horses and carried six shooters. As I watched Raiders, I couldn’t help but feel that Indiana Jones was larger than life and, in many ways fit the aforementioned hero bill (less the laser pistols of course). The movie also furthered the ambitions of George Lucas who wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark and whose company Lucasfilm Ltd. produced the movie. In addition, composer John Williams wrote the memorable score for ‘Raiders’ after having worked with Spielberg on Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind and with Lucas on the Star Wars franchise. Following a nearly Within a matter of minutes, we learn a great deal about Harrison Ford's most celebrated character and of the plot's major conflict involving the thieving Belloq (Paul Freeman). As he navigates through an ancient temple of booby traps, the fedora-wearing, bullwhip-snapping Indiana Jones shows that he is as intelligent, cunning and resourceful as he is fallible and culpable, which only makes him all the more endearing. And by the end of the first act, we also learn the filmmakers are aiming for a tonally darker tale than their previous efforts as they introduce Hitler's interest in mysticism and the occult while the Nazis search for the Ark of the Covenant. Yet, Spielberg amazingly keeps things optimistically carefree and riveting as he pays homage to the pulp B-movies of his youth, not only for the sake of nostalgia for that bygone era but also to reintroduce the joy of cinema with a kind of child-like awe."

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is a must-own for home theater buffs. This movie is true to the action drama and the 4k HDR Atmos presentation makes it even more like reliving the experience in theaters. However, even without the HDR and Atmos qualities, the 2160p resolution provides a great viewing experience and 7-channel audio slightly more immersive. The details in the antiquities Indy comes across, the scenery in Cairo, and, the overall quality of the picture are really worth the 4k upgrade.
