The last of the book is a true fairy tale. Valancy lives a romantic life on an island in a nearby lake, enjoying nature like the naturalist author of her favorite books. There seem to be no annoying insects or mice invading the kitchen--only the beauties of nature. Her family are repressive and awful beyond belief. Then she receives the news that she has a fatal heart condition and will die within a year. I liked how Valancy and Barney's relationship started and would always be built on their friendship. There was a deep, romantic love there, no doubt. But, the person that one chooses as their life partner needs to be one that they can be happy to be around, and comfortable enough to not feel the need to fill the silences, but to cherish them. They found a connection as soulmates through the doorway of respect for each other and friendship. A great way to start a great lifetime love, in my opinion. Meanwhile Barney and Valancy prepare to go on an autumn world tour, knowing their summer home on Barney's small island - the 'Blue Castle' - will be waiting for them.
