The AF does a fine job when you have a static subject, but with something fast moving you will probably have to learn to pre-focus at the point you expect the subject to arrive at, which may require some trial-and-error.

The cost of a camera seems to have a direct impact on the number of buttons on the body, so we’re disappointed if not surprised to note that the Fn button – present on the front of other Nikon cameras and normally assigned to changing the ISO – is missing here. Some more AF points would have been nice, but the 11-point AF system works fine for general shooting, and does the job for some moving subjects too. My current favorite is the NiteCore UNK1 USB charger. It has two bays, one for the EN-EL14/a and another for the EN-EL15/a batteries like the ones the Nikon D850 takes. If you’re only using the D3500, you can regard this as a single-battery charger, since you’ll only be able to use one of the two slots. But if you’re also shooting with one of Nikon’s other DSLRs which happens to use the EN-EL15a, as I do, then you get to take full advantage of the dual slots. It also has a small LED screen that shows a more precise percentage for charging status as well as battery health and the current flowing. It’s smaller and lighter than the official Nikon MH-24 charger and can be powered via USB by an external powerbank, AC charger, or in the car. So I find it to be a more convenient option even using only one of the two slots. The optical viewfinder on the D3500 offers a coverage of 95%, which is typical for an entry-level DSLR, so you may need to be a bit careful when framing some shots to avoid unwanted elements creeping into the edges of the frame. In viewfinder shooting, the 11 AF points are clustered towards the middle of the frame, but if your subject is near the edge it’s easy enough to focus and then reframe before shooting. You can let the camera choose the focus point automatically or select it yourself; either way it’s very fast, and very positive. The D3500 is so compact and lightweight that, as someone who usually uses a higher-end body, it felt a little bit like shooting with a toy. It’s comfortable for a full day of shooting, but like most entry-level cameras, it has a body that feels like it could easily get dinged-up if you aren’t careful. Of course the benefit is that its lightweight, making it easy to take everywhere, but there were situations where I found myself thinking twice about shooting with it. Its lightweight, making it easy to take everywhere We are very strict with the safety requirements. Every our high-grade replacement battery for Nikon D3500 has been tested to prove that they can match or surpass original Nikon battery performance and be 100% compatible with Original Manufacturer Specifications. In compliance with international standards, they have obtained a series of rigorous safety certifications such as CE, UL, ROHS, ISO9001/9002. In general, this replacement Nikon D3500 battery can be charged/discharged up to more than 600 cycles.

You seem to be short-minded, as the CIPA 1550 Shots Battery rating isn't meant for one day of course - i do charge my DSLR Batteries, and can use them for months, even after 4-6 months or more, they do have enough energy left for my shooting style. With a inferior NP-FW50, i can charge it all few days, weeks, because the battery itself is being emptied inside the camera. One of the consequences of the DSLR design is that the D3500 only offers eleven autofocus points, all clustered fairly near the middle of the frame. As you learn and grow with the camera, you might find this limiting. The autofocus system on the camera feels quite dated, even for an entry-level camera. It has a hard time keeping up in low-light situations and when your eye is to the viewfinder it can be a little difficult to tell which point is selected. Pressing the shutter down half-way to initiate autofocus before firing a shot shows you what point is selected, but the red dot only appears for half a second, is quite faint, and occasionally will trigger a red glow from other spots in the viewfinder. I disagree. Most mirrorless cameras in the same price range offer features that are far better for beginners, like: Dual card slots are really cheap insurance against very rare, but potentially catastrophic, loss. House fires are very rare. Most people will never experience one in their lifetimes. Let's see them cancel their insurance policies... ;) We spent time with the D3500 around Brooklyn with the standard 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens and an additional 35mm f/1.8G DX Nikkor lens. What’s new?

THE NEW NIKON D3500: CAPTURE AND SHARE YOUR TREASURED MOMENTS WITH THE LIGHTEST, FRIENDLIEST NIKON DSLR YET In replacing the earlier D3400 with the Nikon D3500, the Japanese manufacturer has updated and refreshed one of its classic entry-level DSLR designs, making it even more appealing to first time buyers and offering a viable alternative to mirrorless models. If you shoot in low light/low contrast, you need a camera able to handle high ISO, if you shoot in fierce light and high contrast you probably need a camera with a huge dynamic range. The Nikon EN-EL14a battery may be slim, but it's enough to power the D3500 for an amazing 1,550 shots. EVFs certainly have their advantages, especially as you can see the exposure 'live', meaning you don't get any nasty surprises when you fire the shutter. These days, modern EVFs are also fantastic at what they do. But still many photographers prefer the cleaner, definitely lag-free view offered by an optical viewfinder, so there's no 'best' option for everyone.
