At What Hi-Fi? we review hundreds of products every year at our state-of-the-art testing facilities in London, Reading and Bath. We have complete control over the testing process, and we also review products as a team as opposed to individually, ensuring no opinion goes unheard. Our team is filled with experts in the audio world with over 100 combined years of reviewing experience.

However, if you don’t have an Apple Music subscription, you’re rather limited when it comes to music streaming. You can't ask the HomePod mini to play anything through Spotify – that can only be enabled through AirPlay, and requires using your phone rather than the simpler method of asking Siri to play tunes with your voice. If there’s a single reason to buy the HomePod mini, it’s the sound quality, which delivered clear treble and smooth mids during our tests. However, Bluetooth-only speakers are generally more portable (as they don't require an internet connection to work) and often more affordable. How many watts is good for a home Bluetooth speaker? As you'd expect, Bluetooth speakers are wireless in that they don't require a wire to connect to an audio source; they use a Bluetooth codec. However, they don't necessarily also support wi-fi, which is a necessary feature of what we term 'wireless speakers'. A wireless speaker can connect to an audio source via the internet (i.e. wi-fi) – by way of Apple AirPlay or Google Chromecast, for example – whether or not it also has Bluetooth. The Addon C3 is basically the wi-fi-enabled, multi-room version of Audio Pro's Addon T3. It has the same minimalist looks that the Scandinavian company is known for, complete with textured surfaces and an embossed leather carry handle, but the wireless tech adds a whole new dimension to your listening.

It sports a tactile lacquered wooden surface that lights up as you interact with it. We’ve seen for ourselves how these speakers are made, and we can tell you that plenty of care goes into selecting the wood and sanding it down by hand. With this gaming speaker, you can enhance your online role-playing gaming experience as it offers an immersive sound clarity. You can carry it with your to your friend’s place for game nights for an incredible gaming session. All you have to do is connect your gaming console to this speaker via Bluetooth for crystal-clear sound. It's a blot on the Soundbox’s copybook when you consider the handful of soundbars that now support it, and the content is there to be enjoyed on Sky Q. Sky has instead focused purely on delivering an “immersive sound”– and who are we to argue with that?

Everything sounds immersive, and that’s the description Sky uses as well, but the Soundbox doesn’t support Dolby Atmos. This would be fine if Sky hadn’t done a song and dance about supporting Atmos through the Sky Q service, making it a strange omission. That said, the technology isn’t available to Sky+ customers who won’t feel its absence. Final verdictHost the best party with the best music with Sony that has bluetooth and is wireless. Its Extra Bass feature enhances low-end tones and gives the bass a boost. What’s more, this speaker also features a water-resistant design and has a powerful battery that let you go all day and let you party by the poolside without any worries. There is no Dolby Atmos, only Dolby Digital Plus. Sky says that its Sky+ service doesn’t support the surround-sound format and therefore not all of its customers would benefit. Its dedicated mains charging port and bundled UK, EU and US plugs make it an easy fit for your lounge too, though, and once there, it'll sound as detailed, clear and expansive as this sort of money can buy. Another annoyance is that there’s no display, just a power indicator light, so you can’t see at a glance which source you’re connected to. Instead, the Soundbox vocalises source changes whenever you press the appropriate button on its tiny remote control, saying “HDMI”, “Optical” or “Bluetooth” before engaging. In the audio world, it is tough to compare how good one brand is to another on the whole, especially when it comes to big brands that have many products in their arsenal. While we do recommend some JBL speakers on the above list, don't assume that everything JBL makes is better than everything Bose makes. How we test Bluetooth speakers
