If you don’t have a Hive thermostat, or if you disable Heat On Demand, then turning up a Hive Radiator Valve will only warm up the room if your heating is already on. Admittedly, Sennheiser can’t pretend the TV Clear is an entirely new concept — wireless TV headphones have existed for over a decade now — but Sennheiser is promising better customization options via the app, lower latency, multi-point pairing and a more approachable design that most folks are more familiar with.

If your TV has an optical digital audio output and you don’t need the latest Bluetooth standard, the Mee Audio Connect AF-T1 could be a good match for your Bluetooth TV adapter needs. In addition to optical digital, the Connect AF-T1 also has a 3.5mm input and comes with a splitter to hook to an RCA output. At 2.2 x 2.2 x 1 inches, it’s small enough to take with you and features 12 hours of battery life. You can connect two devices at once to listen with a friend. If you also have a Hive thermostat you can enable Heat On Demand in your Hive Radiator Valve’s settings in the Hive app. Once you have enabled Heat On Demand, your Hive Radiator Valve will boost your thermostat automatically to turn on your heating and make heat available to your radiators when they need it.

When Heat On Demand turns the heating on, every radiator will be provided with heat. Rooms with thermostatic valves (including Hive Radiator Valves) will warm up until they reach their target temperatures. Rooms with manual (on/off) radiator controls will continue to heat up until the boiler switches off again. Don’t try to open your Hive Radiator Valve. There are no parts inside that you can service or replace. For those who are hard of hearing, Sennheiser says that the system offers five speech clarity levels that can provide up to 20 dB high-frequency amplification to make it easier to hear what’s happening on the screen. You can also have one volume for the earbuds and one volume for the TV so that people in the room can hear what’s happening without listening to the content at a higher-than-normal volume. So the Hive TRV sends a demand for heat to the wall TRV which turns it on for 1/2 hour, so with a couple of Hive TRV heads the boiler will not turn off until those rooms are satisfied not as good as Opentherm but some boilers don't have any ebus connection or it is limited as not using the industrial standard of Opentherm, so with an old Bosch boiler which does not have OpenTherm Hive is likely the best compromise.

If you see a few drops of water when you unscrew your old radiator control then your existing valve body may be leaking. Valve bodies can often be tightened up, but some might need replacing if they are leaking. We recommend fixing your valve body before installing your Hive Radiator Valve. Get advice from a plumber if you’re unsure of how to do this. They're like traditional true wireless earbuds, but the audio settings and listening experience can be customized with the TV Clear companion app, and the transmitter’s low latency streaming technology keeps audio and video in sync so there’s no delay in the audio. The idea of a TRV is that it turns off when a room is at a specific temp, but if the room stat says its warm enough where the room stat is, then the TRV will still be open but of no use. The Hive ones can override the HIVE room stat, so that means running the boiler for.......one room. For configurations including a valve body: a thermostatic valve body should only be installed by someone competent in the installation of plumbing equipment.

When you’re shopping for a Bluetooth TV adapter, you want to make sure it can connect to your TV (or computer, if that’s your video source). Most TVs today will have a 3.5mm auxiliary output. Some come with an optical digital audio output or an RCA (stereo) output. For instance, if the sound from your TV isn't loud enough, you can use one to connect a wireless speaker. Or if you want to watch TV late at night without disturbing others, you can pair a Bluetooth TV adapter with some headphones and keep the sound to yourself. The idea is Hive is a rather cheap non smart wall thermostat without Opentherm or the clever algorithms used by Nest, however by linking to the TRV heads it allows the boilers own system to modulated the boiler instead, turning off boiler means loss of energy through the flue, and the hotter the boiler is when turned off, the more energy is lost, also when the boiler is running flat out it is not running at most efficient, so you only want to turn boiler off when no longer needed, turning it off/on to regulate output means it does not run in an efficient way. It needs to be allowed to modulate (turn down) and once at minimum output the boiler needs to start cycling not wall thermostat as when the boiler does it, when it turns on again it turns on at minimum output, but if the thermostat does it then it restarts at maximum output. So idea it to let the TRV control boiler output due to return water temperature not a on/off wall thermostat. Clearly with an OpenTherm wall thermostat it does restart boiler at minimum output. Using TRV analogue control also means reduced or no hysteresis so better for occupants. You should also think about the range: how far away will you be when you’re watching or listening? For TV watching, the range shouldn’t be much of an issue, but if you’re using the adapter to listen to music —or you’re sending audio from your phone to play over the adapter —you will likely want more range.
